Showcase Sunday / Stacking the Shelves / The Sunday Post XXXI

So I was a good little girl and didn't buy any books this week....though I have plenty waiting in the shopping carts that I'm just dying to get my hands on.

Here's all that I borrowed this week, though...do I have time to finish these anytime soon? No. Do I still keep adding books to the various piles scattered about my room? Yes. Do I need help? Do I???

  1. Congrats on not buying any books this week! I don't know much about the animated novels but really enjoyed City of Bones and have heard nothing but good things about Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children, so hope you enjoy them! Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier :)

    1. It was a struggle... :P I've read plenty of manga and these looked like some I should have read a long time ago. I've heard City of Bones was good, and have been meaning to read it for ages! Miss Peregrine's I read few years ago, and enjoyed, this is just the graphic novel version of it. Thanks for returning the favor! :)

  2. It's so hard to resist buying books so I applaud your restraint! City of Bones is such a fantastic book. And I have Miss Peregrine's but haven't started it yet. Hope you enjoy your books :) Here's ours: BiblioJunkies Happy Reading! ~ Bel

  3. We all just keep on getting more and more books. But I still don't think this is a problem. We're just loving getting new books :) Enjoy!

  4. I need to find someone who reads a lot of graphic novels and manga to give me ideas of which ones are appropriate for high school students. I mean, no nudity really. I bought one I thought was going to be okay, then was looking through it myself the other day and caught something I probably could have parents complain about. Great haul though!
    Check out my Sunday Post

    1. Hmmm. Well, I read a lot of manga, and some GN, and generally it is in the teen section. There generally isn't nudity in that age group (or it’s not explicit), and most volumes are labeled as far as age appropriateness on the back. Also, there are other areas to worry about, such as violence or language, all of which can be found in most YA novels. So really it can be hit or miss.

Generally speaking, nudity is something that appears in more mature manga genres, and frankly I don't read those. In teen level, there can sometimes be suggestive content so best to just use good judgement and pre-read beforehand. It just depends on the age level. Are these younger or older high school students? I began reading manga later in high school, so most anything I've read was for that age group.

I would suggest D.Grayman or Fullmetal Alchemist, but they can be rather violent. It's also difficult to recommend something that both guys and girls would read. These are a battle manga. Shoujo is normally directed towards girls. Kamisama Kiss is examples of this. I would say most things by CLAMP might work for both. A favorite of mine by them would be Tsubasa. Pandora Hearts is also a favorite of mine, but as far as content, it would just depend on the age group. It gets a bit dark, as does Black Butler. I also really like Yotsuba&!, it’s JF level but super cute.

Anya’s Ghost, Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong, & Friends With Boys are a few of my favorites in the graphic novel category.

I hope this helped some. :)
